CranioSacral Principal Benefits

CST reverses the effects of stress. It works to improve central nervous function. It is known to have helped a variety of stress-related problems like migraine headaches, insomnia, anxiety, TMJ, chronic fatigue and chronic symptoms in conditions including traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, motor-coordination impairments, chronic back and neck pain, learning disabilities, orthopedic problems and whiplash sequalae.

CranioSacral is effective as a preventive health measure and can be used as a part of a Wellness Program.

Specific Conditions for which CST should not be used

It is not recommended to use CST where a variety and/or slight increase in intracranial pressure would cause instability. Examples are acute aneurysm, cerebral hemorrhage or pre-existing bleeding.

Somato-Emotional Release

Research has demonstrated that organs, tissues and individual cells possess memory, emotional capacity and intellect. This suggests that physical and emotional trauma can be retained, suppressed and isolated within the soma.

When CranioSacral Therapy releases restrictions in body tissues (due to trauma, emotional conflicts, and even bacteria, viruses and genetics), an area of disorganized, disruptive energy called an “ENERGY CYST” can also be released.

The CranioSacral Therapist will then gently encourage a Somato-Emotional Release, engaging in imaging and dialoguing techniques that can help to fully discharge the emotional imprint of physical trauma and other traumatic and painful memories.

The releasing of negative emotions and feelings from the body’s tissues, along with a central nervous system free of restrictions, can return the body to its optimal levels of functioning.

How many sessions of CranioSacral Therapy are needed?

The response to CST varies from individual to individual, from condition to condition, from the therapist’s level of training and experience. Sometimes one session is needed. Often up to three or more a week, over the course of several weeks, are required before results are experienced.

What you can expect from a CranioSacral Therapy session

A CranioSacral session lasts from 45 minutes to an hour. The client remains fully clothed. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.

Some clients fall asleep, some talk a great deal , when others stay very still the entire session.

Results vary greatly. A reduction of pain, for example, or an increase in function may be experienced right away or will be felt over the next few days and even continues weeks after the session. Often, after a session, there is a “Reorganization Phase.” During that phase, previously held patterns may surface to be released.

CST is useful both as a primary treatment method or when combined with other traditional or complementary therapies.
